![]() ![]() This process is known as GPU Throttling or Thermal Throttling of GPU. You get a phase when the GPU performance is excellent and then you get another phase when the GPU performance is very low due to high temperatures. This leads to a fall in temperature and once it reaches the normal safe working temperature then the performance of the GPU increases again. This drop in performance reduces its power consumption and reduces heat generation. This heat slowly increases the temperature of the GPU and when the temperature levels exceed the critical threshold point beyond which the GPU cannot endure then the performance of the GPU is suddenly dropped. If your cooling system isn’t good enough then it cannot remove this excess heat. When the GPU runs at that level, it consumes a lot of power and generates a lot of heat. The performance of the GPU remains like that until the temperature decreases to a safe working temperature for the GPU. This is done in order to protect the system from overheating, Artifacting, and internal damage. GPU Throttling is a safety mechanism in which the performance of the GPU is reduced during high temperatures.
